Snowden's Tournament Journal: Grand Lake
Event: BassMaster Elite
When: May 29-June 4, 2006
Where: Grand Lake, OK
Finish: 23rd
Winnings: $10,250.00
With sunny skies and hot temperatures I decided to fish main lake structure
from Sailboat Bridge to Horse Creek. The lake level was holding steady, and
the fish were holding in 6-18 feet of water. During my first day of practice
I caught five keepers cranking a Fat Free Shad Jr. in citrus along rocky,
wind blown points. I then switched to a Texas rigged, ten inch, YUM
Ribbontail Worm in plum and a Carolina rig with a watermelon candy Wooly
Hawgtail. I was able to catch numerous keepers during my first day of
practice. The second day of practice was slow, but the quality of fish was
better, catching fish in the 3-4 pound range. I was working a ¾ oz., BOOYAH
Football Jig in pb&j along main lake points and drops.
The first day of the tournament started out fast and furious! I was able to
catch a limit of fish on the ten inch, plum worm working rocky points in
6-12 feet of water. The second day of the tournament I caught another limit
in the morning on the Texas rigged worm, then I switched to the Carolina rig
that produced a fish over five pounds later in the afternoon. I finished the
tournament with 40 pounds and 10 ounces. This put me in 23rd place to round
out the tournament.
