}><(((º> Millwood Lake Fishing Report 02 June 2008 <º)))><{
The Overall Picture:
Navigation conditions in Little River are near normal.
As of Monday 2 June, Largemouth Bass are very good to excellent. Decreased
current in Little River from last week. Millwood is almost normal again, as
of Monday. Water surface temps increased from last week. Jigs, 10-12"
worms, bulky lizards, Bass Assassin Shads, Trick worms & Top Water Toads all
continue working well for Bass.
Keeper size Largemouth Bass from 3, up to 9 pounds, have been caught and
released, over the past several weeks. The water clarity along the river
improved again this week w/ decreased fresh incoming water in Little River.
Main
lake clarity improving. Some high density broken vegetation and floating
mats remain in Little River, due to recent pool fluctuations and discharge
over
past many weeks, and is still present. USACE are working diligently to
replace damaged and/or missing river buoys in Little River.
As of Monday, 2 June, the main lake and Little River's water surface temp
range approx 73º to 83º, depending of course, on location and time of day.
Lake level on Millwood as of Monday 2 June, is approx 6.1 inches above
normal,
and rising, at 259.71 feet. Normal pool is 259.2 feet. Little River's
clarity as of Monday, is approx 8-12" visibility. Main lake clarity and
visibility 10-15" away from current. Current in Little River and discharge
at the
dam is 1,171 CFS as of Monday. Many river buoys have already been replaced.
Some broken loose grass and vegetation mats, are still present.
All USACE boat ramps and campgrounds are now open, as of Monday 2 June 08.
Upriver oxbow's clarity again improved and is approx 24-36". The tailwater
elevation was 228.62 on Monday, 2 June. Discharge/ Release Rate at the
spillway of 1,171 CFS is with 3 tainer gates open at at 1 foot each. Use
caution
in navigation on Little River during low light conditions due to broken
vegetation still present and floating downstream.
The Details:
Largemouth Bass: Bass are good to excellent over the past couple weeks and
have been caught and released, up to 10.5 pounds each, in 3-9 foot depth
areas. Chunky Bass from 4-7 pounds are consistent over the past week and
have
improved again from last week. Best bite is on jigs and bulky 10-12" worms,
buzz baits, Bass Assassin Shads, Top Water Toads, and trick worms like Salty
Rat Tails.
Jigs in black/blue or black/red, Bass Assassin Shads in salt and pepper
silver phantom or rainbow trout, Trick Worms and Salty Rat Tails in
watermelon-red or smoke/blue flake, Topwater Toads, and big bulky Magnum
Lizards in
green
pumpkin continue working well. 4" Southern Pro Fattbutt Tubes (with rattles)
in apple seed, blue gill, or camo, are working in stain water areas; try
purple smoke in clear water areas. 10 or 12" worms or bulky lizards in
black/blue, june bug-red, red shad or plum colors; Hog Assassins in black
emerald,
and green pumpkin remain working well.
Siefert's Buzz Baits, in Hot Firecracker, Chartreuse Perch, or Bleeding
Avocado, near newly emerging lily pads, in the 2-5 foot depths of clearest
water
you can find near cypress trees and knees, are drawing good reactions from
big fish.
War Eagle spinnerbaits, in Aurora, Cole Slaw, and Hot Mouse colors, are
taking some decent 16" to 18" size keeper Largemouths around flooded
vegetation
and cypress trees, away from current of the river, close to deep water.
Rat-L-Traps in Sexy Shad West, Bleeding White Striper, or Spring Bream
colors seem
to be the best lipless crank bait bites over the past week.
White Bass: White Bass again improved with the decrease in current in
Little River and less fresh water, between Pugh Slough and Horseshoe Lake in
Little River. Several White Bass fishermen found large schools of Whites
while
trolling with Rat-L-Traps and deep diving cranks in Little River between
Pugh
Slough and Horseshoe.
Crappie: Crappie bite, improved this past week with the improvement in
water clarity and conditions along Little River. Most consistent bite was on
live shiners, smoke tube jigs and white grubs, over the past week.
Channel Cats: Blues continue to hit well on trotlines, and remains
consistent and steady even w/ the reduction of current in Little River over
the past
week. Channel Cats, from 3-8 pounds each, are very good to excellent, using
chicken livers and hearts, cut shad or Charlie, on trot lines and yo-yo's
along the river and in oxbows hung from cypress trees in approx 9-15 feet
water
depth, near any current.
Bream: Continue to bite well again along the banks on crickets and red
worms around docks and cypress trees. Jack's Isle, and campers at Millwood
State
Park, all reporting a good Blue Gill and Bream bite over the past 2 weeks.
Longnose Gar: Still remain relatively shallow and cruising, are actively
seen in huge numbers in shallow water spawning areas are making excellent
opportunities for bow fishermen. Clusters of 2-4 fish swimming together, and
large females up to 8 pounds each, in 1-3 feet of water depth, are still
present
in backwater sloughs and oxbows.

Wear your Life Jacket!! If you are suddenly or unexpectedly thrown from
your boat, it could be your only chance of survival. Use caution navigating
Little River in low light conditions, SLOW DOWN, and pass friendly to other
boaters! As always, careful watch for any random floaters and debris in
Little
River's current, and wearing your PFD and kill switch is a requirement!!
Don't forget, be courteous, and respect the other guy's right to use the
lake too. Release those big bass to spawn and fight again, and take home
those
little 16"ers to fry up! Use caution in low light conditions, and wear your
flotation device! If you are suddenly thrown from your boat, or knocked
unconscious, your life preserver can potentially be your only hope to
survive.
