Lake Oconee Fishing
Report
LAKE OCONEE IS DOWN 3.8 FEET, 56 DEGREES AND CLEAR BY AL
BASSETT, 706-473-7758
Lake Oconee is just over three and one half foot below full pool and
dropping. When Georgia Power is moving water the level may drop by 1 to 1
1/2 foot so use caution when running the lake. There has been some problems
with some of the ramps so be carefully when loading and unloading your boat.
The water temperature is 56 to 60 degrees and dropping. Most of the lake is
clear to having a little stain. Bass fishing is Fair. Spinnerbait or small
crank bait is still your best beat. Make sure that you cover a lot of water.
Fishing a ¼ ounce Rat-L-Trap in the Chrome and Black or the Chrome and Blue
or a spinnerbait in the white/chart will catch you some number and a few
good one. Fish area leading into the coves and small pockets around the
lake. Work you way back into the coves 100 to 150 yards switch over to the
other bank and work you way out. These fish are in less than two foot of
water so make sure you cast right to the bank. Use a Texas rig worm on any
brush you see. Work this bait all around the brush as you may find fish
holding on this type of structure.
Hybrid fishing is fair and there are some fish being caught south of the Hwy
44 Bridge using live bait. Use your depth finder to find the fish. Look for
the fish holding around school of bait fish. There are a few fish school on
the top but this may happen at any time so have a rod ready.
Crappie fishing is fair. There are still some good being caught over brush
piles in 5 to 10 foot of water. Trolling still is working but starting to
slow a little. Fishing around the Sugar Creek bridge has been very good.
Casting small jigs around the bridge let the bait fall and reel slow should
bring you a good number of fish.
