Only pros Todd Auten and Casey Ashley can claim a home water advantage in
the upcoming Bassmaster Classic, held February 22-24 on Lake Hartwell, S.C.

7/17/07 Tim Tucker Passes On
Longtime outdoors writer Tim Tucker, who was a
regular contributor to BASS Times and Bassmaster Magazine, died Monday in an
automobile accident near Gainesville, Fla.
Tucker contributed significantly to the growth of bass fishing over
the past 25 years with articles in a number of publications, including a
regular column in the Gainesville Sun. Tucker also wrote a number of fishing
books and his writing and photography earned him numerous accolades in the
outdoors journalism community.
“Tim Tucker was more than just a co-worker and contributor. He was
family,” said Dave Precht, senior director of BASS publications. “He was
passionate about the sport of bass fishing, and was one of its greatest
advocates. We are devastated by this loss.”
Tucker is survived by his wife, Darlene, and their two children.
> 7/14/07 Yelas Wins Another
AOY Title
Jay Yelas has just clinched another Angler of

I won by just a small margin. If one of the fish I’d caught during the year
would have weighed half a pound less, Mark or Shin would have won.”

4/5/07 New Safety Device
Research Machine Development (RMD) recently announced a revolutionary new
product which is designed to prevent severe trailer equipment accidents and
reduce associated collateral damage and traffic fatalities, specifically
associated with leaf spring suspension systems breaking.
According to RMD, anecdotal data suggests that
the amount of related accidents is on the rise, due to the increasing market
acceptance and use of low cost (and consequently low quality), foreign-made,
leaf spring suspensions. The damage is caused by the unpredictable snapping
of the metal blades while the trailer is being hauled behind its towing
vehicle, usually at high speeds, on roads and highways. Usually, the ensuing
accident is damaging to the trailer frame and fender, as well as the trailer
tire(s) and sometimes the boat as well. At very high speeds, the towing
vehicle itself, and any following cars, may also become part of the
accident.
“Boating trailer accidents, due to leaf spring
suspension failure, are increasing in frequency," says inventor George
Yonekura. “The problem has become worse due to the increased use of low-cost
imports and the associated decrease in quality. The new, low-cost leaf
spring imports can snap in as short as two weeks after installation.”
For more information on the device, check out
RMD's website at:
www.researchmachinedevelopment.com or call 408-988-1785.

3/22/07 'Bad to the Core'
Here at UltimateBassin.com, we are always on the lookout for something new
and innovative, and we recently came across an incredibly creative piece of
work that all bass fishermen can appreciate. A Save Phace mask, sweetened to
the max.
A Dallas, Texas angler, Dwayne Shamburger, decided to get a new mask after
his former one was lost, but not just any mask - this one was to be the
baddest thing on the water.
He turned to Kelly Barefoot for the job. Kelly,
of Custom Lures Unlimited, works with many professional bass fishermen
including Skeet Reese, Randy Howell, and Mike Iaconelli. “Not only does he
have to be one of the best to ever pick up an airbrush, his work ethic is
second to none." Dwayne said. "He’s simply a class act on all accounts.”
The result is incredible. Hours spent with an
airbrush, meticulous attention to detail, and perseverance created what we
consider to be the coolest mask in the nation.
“You know I was skeptical of how the pieces were
to fit in the mask, but I've gotta say this is right at the top of my
favorite things I've worked on. I've been doing art since I child and this
will be one of the most memorable pieces I've done,” Kelly said. “This thing
is simply just bad to the core... no other way to describe it.”

in the bass fishing world:

Four legendary anglers have been chosen for

lures such as the Gambler Bacon Rind and the "Wakin' Bacon" spinnerbait.
Stan Fagerstrom. Fagerstrom is a widely known
outdoor writer and is renowned for his master casting ability. He has
traveled the world for almost fifty years fishing for and writing about
bass.
Bill Norman. Norman is the legendary founder of
Norman Lures, and is responsible for many, many lure improvements,
especially in crankbaits. He passed away on August 7, 1995.
Dee Thomas. Thomas is known as the creator of

A third pro has been disqualified from the
recently completed BASS Elite Series tournament on Santee Cooper. Randy
Howell is the latest to lose points and money based upon a rule violation.

for the purposes of locating or catching bass, nor enter the tournament
waters with anyone who has been on the tournament waters during the
off-limits period including, but not limited to, a professional guide, state

and competition with the exception of loading and unloading from trailers… “

The following is a statement from professional
angler Kevin VanDam regarding his disqualification from the upcoming Elite
Series tournament on Santee Cooper Lake:
"I take full responsibility for violating a BASS rule. I did not do
it purposely and I did not realize I was breaking any rules. In my 16-year
career, I have worked with the utmost integrity and would never knowingly
violate a rule. I accept the determination and made a mistake by not
thoroughly understanding the rules. I’m looking forward to moving on the
Guntersville event and my focus is on the reminder of the season."

3/21/06 World Record Rumors
Rumors have been circulating concerning a
potential world record fish caught recently in Lake Dixon, CA.
Mac Weakley is rumored to have weighed a 25-01
spawning largemouth bass. He caught the largemouth, reportedly, on a white
jig which was hooked to the bass' dorsal fin. Weakley weighed the fish on
uncertified scales and then released it back into the lake.
Because of this, it is unlikely that the fish
will be counted as the new world record largemouth bass.
Stay tuned as this story develops.

> 2/28/06 Ranger President on Ike
The following is a statement from Randy Hopper,
President of Ranger Boats
"Based on a series of events that occurred during the recent
Bassmaster Classic competition, Ranger Boats is withdrawing its sponsorship
and affiliation with Mike Iaconelli. We do not believe that Mike's conduct
during the tournament appropriately represents the deep-seated values on
which our company was built and continues to operate.
Ranger further acknowledges Iaconelli's impressive angling
achievements as well as his commitment to promoting the sport of fishing.
His efforts to encourage others through the platform of fishing are a credit
to his many accomplishments. While we regret his actions leading to this
decision, we wish Mike well in future ventures."

DQd
Michael Iaconelli's day 1 catch was disqualified
at the 2006 Classic in Lake Toho. Iaconelli. Ike caught 11-09, which would
have put him in 35th place.
BASS officials decided the disqualification was
necessary after reviewing tapes which showed Iaconelli becoming angry after
two of his fish died. According to BASS, he then "destroyed some safety
equipment" on board, which is against BASS sportsmanship rules.

2/01/06 BASS and the Polygraph
After three years without polygraph testing,
BASS has reinstated the option of using it again in tournaments. BASS
tournament director Trip Weldon says the exams will reappear in 2006, but
there was no event which prompted the change.
"Our interest is in protecting the integrity of
the tournaments and dealing with allegations of irregularities," Weldon
said. "As the worldwide authority on bass fishing, we want to be as accurate
as possible when conducting tournaments."
The polygraph test is used only as a last resort
when an angler has been accused of a rule violation.

1/11/06 Rayburn Off Limits For Pros
BASS issued a statement today regarding the
inaugural Elite Series event: BASS has changed the off-limit dates for the
“Lone Star Shootout” Elite Series event on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, taking
place on March 16-19. Sam Rayburn Reservoir now is off limit to Elite Series
pros from March 5-12. This change allows Elite pros to fish both events
without violating off-limits restrictions.
> 1/11/06 Toledo Bend Events
Moved
BASS announced today that the Women's Bassmaster
Tour event on Toledo Bend has been moved to Table Rock Lake Sept. 14-17,
2006.
The scheduled Southern Tour event has also been
moved to Sam Rayburn Reservoir at the same date.
The reason for moving both events is water level
- the east Texas area has not received significant rainfall in months, and
Toledo Bend is too low for safety.
