up a pro?
Evers on Verge of Greatness
CELEBRATION,
Fla. – Edwin Evers is on the verge of greatness, as fishing fans watch and
wonder when the 32-year-old Oklahoma pro will break through. Evers already
has won three tournaments, posted 28 top-10 finishes and qualified for seven
Bassmaster Classic appearances.
And he is poised to join the BASS Millionaire’s Club, with earnings so far
of $866,225 in his short career. All of those accomplishments have come in
seven seasons. More...
Klein
Looks to Improve on Season
So
far, eight-time BASS winner Gary Klein’s results on the 2007 Bassmaster
Elite Series have not been up to his standards.
Reese, VanDam Vie for BASS AOY Title
Skeet
Reese has recorded a steady and consistent career worthy of envy at BASS.
But the Auburn, Calif., Bassmaster Elite Series pro has yet to secure the
award he covets most: the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year.
Iaconelli's
Not Panicking
For
many Bassmaster Elite Series pros, holding down the 39th spot in the
yearlong Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings nearing the
midway point of the season would be an acceptable position. After all, that
standing puts the angler square in the middle of the race for a coveted
invitation to the Bassmaster Classic – the top 37 in the standings advance
to the superbowl of bass fishing.
Is
Reese Coming of Age as Elite Series Angler?
Are fishing fans witnessing the coming of age of Skeet Reese?
That is an obvious question considering the impressive start the Auburn,
Calif., pro has enjoyed on the Bassmaster Elite Series this season.
Young Pro
Campbell Enjoys Quick Start in Elite Series
At just 24, Scott Campbell is not the youngest competitor on the Bassmaster
Elite Series. That honor belongs to Donalds, S.C., Elite pro Casey Ashley,
who is also 24 and is just months younger than Campbell.
Snowden's
Tournament Journal - Clear Lake
The first day of practice was cloudy and rainy, as the start of a severe
cold front approached Clear Lake. The water temperature was still 58 degrees
at the start of our first day of practice, and the fish were biting!
Snowden's Tournament Journal - California Delta
The first day of practice I spent concentrating on dead end sloughs working
the inside grass lines on high tide and the outside edges on low tide. I
caught several fish working a bluegill colored Speed Trap and spinnerbait
along the grass lines. The second day was more productive, as far as big
fish.
Snowden's Tournament Journal - Lake Amistad
Practice started off very well with sunny skies and highs near 70. The water
temperature ranged from 55-58 degrees, and the fish were moving along points
and ditches up to shallow locations for spawning.
Remitz
Surprises Himself, Others With Early Success
It
is a long way from the family sod farm in rural Minnesota to the top of the
most prestigious level of professional angling — the Bassmaster Elite
Series.
Former Classic Champion
Davis Competes in Opens
Among
the 195 anglers competing on the pro side of last weekend’s Bassmaster
Southern Open on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes was a familiar face — former
Bassmaster Classic champion Mark Davis.
Wilks Out for Another
Season
For
the second consecutive year, an elbow injury has derailed the tournament
plans of Dustin Wilks.
The 29-year-old North Carolina pro had
enjoyed a number of solid finishes in BASS tournaments before reconstructive
surgery on his right elbow cost him the 2006 Bassmaster Elite Series season.
And another recent surgical procedure will keep him on the sidelines for the
2007 season.
Monroe Strives to
Achieve; Qualifies for '07 Classic
Growing
up in the San Francisco Bay area, CITGO Bassmaster Elite Series angler Ish
Monroe’s only exposure to bass fishing was during the summers he spent in
Michigan with his father.
Iaconelli Holding off the Charge of Anglers
With
two events left in the race for the CITGO Bassmaster Angler of the Year
title – the Capitol Clash presented by BUSCH Beer on the Potomac River this
week and The Rock presented by TheraSeed on Table Rock Lake in September –
leader Michael Iaconelli will have to fight to hold off a charging field of
accomplished Elite Series anglers.
Wilks Misses Elite Series
Excitement
While
the nation’s best bass pros were in Syracuse, N.Y., last week for the CITGO
Bassmaster Elite Series Empire Chase presented by Mahindra Tractors, one of
the anglers who has earned such Elite status was stuck at home in Rocky
Mount, N.C.
Stone's Swoon in Full
Swing
In
the 2005 CITGO Bassmaster Angler of the Year race, Marty Stone battled
eventual winner Aaron Martens down to the last day of the season. In fact,
the North Carolina pro missed making the finals of the last tournament by
one spot and had to watch from shore as Martens wrapped up the coveted
title.
At 61, Houston Keeps
Plugging Away
Perhaps
the most recognizable face — and certainly the most recognizable laugh — in
fishing belongs to longtime tournament competitor and television show host
Jimmy Houston. The personable blonde pro has long been an icon on the BASS
scene.
Ten Things You Might Not
Know About Shaw Grigsby
Shaw
Grigsby is one of America’s best-known and most-popular bass pros, with a
stellar resume that includes eight BASS victories, 10 runner-up
performances, 10 appearances in the CITGO Bassmaster Classic and more than
$1 million in BASS earnings.
Texan Zell Rowland to
Undergo Back Surgery
Veteran
professional BASS angler Zell Rowland isn’t letting a little thing like back
surgery slow him down. In fact, Rowland won’t miss a beat on the CITGO
Bassmaster Elite Series.
Rowland Joins BASS
Millionaire's Club
Somewhat
lost in the big-bass mania that enveloped the season-opener of the new CITGO
Bassmaster Elite Series on Texas’ Lake Amistad was the fact that Lone Star
State native son Zell Rowland joined one of the most exclusive groups in
professional fishing – The BASS millionaire’s club.
Elias Feeling Rejuvenated
for New Season
For
the 54-year-old Mississippi pro, his 28th season in the BASS wars seemed to
hold more promise than any in recent years.
Scroggins Heavy
Favorite for Classic
Jason
Quinn can certainly identify with Terry Scroggins and his status as the
consensus heavy favorite entering next week’s 36th annual CITGO Bassmaster
Classic on Lake Tohopekaliga in Florida - which is Scroggins’ home state.
VanDam: Winning Four in a Row
Much
has been written about CITGO Bassmaster Classic champion Kevin VanDam as he
prepares to defend his title in Kissimmee, Fla., where the 36th annual
installment of the Bassmaster Classic takes place Feb. 24-26.
Search and Rescue
Volunteer Finds WBT
An Oklahoma cattle rancher who volunteered in the search-and-rescue efforts
after the terrorist attack on Sept. 11, 2001, has signed up to fish the 2006
Mercury Marine Women’s Bassmaster Tour presented by Triton. Kitsy Cunningham
of Eufaula, 48, said the tour provides her an outlet to release the stress
of working search and rescue.
Kelly Jordon: The Elite
Series
Kelly
Jordon has built a solid reputation during his decade of professional bass
fishing and the Mineola, Texas, angler also ranks as one of BASS’ most
popular figures.
Dustin Wilks: Young,
Energetic, Ready to Compete
At
just 28 years old, Dustin Wilks is familiar with being one of the youngest
guys in the field – and dealing with the challenges that come with it.
Youngers Wrote the Book
on Classic Waters
If
he was so inclined, Charlie Youngers could probably make a mint marketing
his angling knowledge to the contenders in the upcoming CITGO Bassmaster
Classic slated for Feb. 24-26 on Florida’s Lake Tohopekaliga and the
Kissimmee Chain of Lakes.
Kevin Wirth: A Master of
Sports
Professional
BASS angler Kevin Wirth has enjoyed a diverse and successful life in sports
and at 43 years old, he’s far from finished.
Cowan Voices Loyalty to
Federation
Ed
Cowan, who in just a few days will make a record seventh appearance at a
BASS Federation Championship when he competes on the Harris Chain of Lakes
in Leesburg, Fla., said he is one of the strongest supporters of the BASS
Federation and its mission to afford every angler an opportunity to fish
competitively.
Elias Ready for Elite
Series
A
veteran of more than 20 successful years of professional bass fishing, Paul
Elias is a respected and popular angler who knows what he’s talking about.
So when Elias uses the word “awesome” to describe fishing the new CITGO
Bassmaster Elite Series, it isn’t to be taken lightly.
Rogers Making Strides in
Latest Career
Mark
Rogers has been an athlete as long as he can remember.
After lettering in various high-school sports, the Florida pro was well on
his way up the professional volleyball ranks as a college student with
Chrissy, now his wife of five years, as his partner. The Rogerses were
talented enough to become national champions in the Co-Ed A Division of the
Bud Light beach volleyball series in 1995.
For Murray, Elite Series
a Must
When
it was time to make a final decision on what circuits he would compete in
next year, it came down to one simple thought for John Murray.
The veteran Arizona pro could not stand the idea of the new CITGO Bassmaster
Elite Series being held without him.
Kennedy Finally Reaches
His Goal
Steve
Kennedy has enjoyed much success on a national tournament circuit, winning
an event and qualifying for its championship this season. But his career
goal always has been to compete in the big leagues of the CITGO Bassmaster
Tournament Trail.
Omori Will be Missed at
2006 Classic
Somewhat
lost in the excitement of the final five pros qualifying for the upcoming
CITGO Bassmaster Classic through the CITGO Bassmaster Open Championship was
the elimination of a former Classic champion.
VanDam Predicts
Record-Shattering Classic on Toho
Two-time
CITGO Bassmaster Classic winner Kevin VanDam predicts the conditions will be
perfect for a record-shattering 2006 edition of professional bass fishing’s
biggest event.
Omori's Classic Hopes on
the Line
Given
his stature in the BASS world and his season-opening CITGO Bassmaster Tour
win on Lake Tohopekaliga in January, Texan Takahiro Omori would have to be
considered one of the pre-tournament favorites in the 2006 CITGO Bassmaster
Classic, Feb. 24-26, on the same waters.
Rookie Momentum: Wolak
Joins Elite Series
It
would be easy for Dave Wolak to rest on his laurels after an
ultra-successful rookie season on the 2005 CITGO Bassmaster Tour. But Wolak
– who captured the Toyota Rookie of the Year award and finished in fourth
place in the CITGO Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings – said the CITGO
Bassmaster Elite Series has raised the stakes in professional bass fishing
and he’s ready for another year of fierce competition.
Kevin VanDam's Classic Reign
As
the only repeat winner of the CITGO Bassmaster Classic since ESPN acquired
BASS in the spring of 2001, Kevin VanDam is in a rare position to gauge the
company’s giant impact on professional bass fishing.
The 38-year-old Michigan pro won his first Classic in 2001 in New Orleans
and earned another Classic trophy this summer in Pittsburgh. His second
Classic reign — the shortest in Classic history created because of the shift
of the world championship event from summer to early spring — may end Feb.
26 at the conclusion of the Classic on Lake Tohopekaliga in Kissimmee, Fla.
Clay Dyer Inspires Audience
“When your confidence climbs, good things start happening,” said Clay Dyer.
The professional bass angler knows what he’s talking about. Born with no
legs and only a partial right arm, Dyer is a successful bass fishing
tournament angler – competing exclusively since 1995 and tournament fishing
since age 15.
Youngers Angling for New

champion, with a parade in the Magic Kingdom today.
Jarrett Edwards
Has Renewed Spirit for 2006
Pro
angler Jarrett Edwards has overcome more obstacles in one year than the
average person will endure in a lifetime. The 26-year-old angler from Page,
Ariz., in March was diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin’s disease and in seven
months has not only beaten the illness, but will return to BASS and fish the
2006 CITGO Bassmaster Elite Series with a renewed spirit and determination
to win.
Roland
Martin Retires from Tournament Fishing
Roland
Martin’s name has been synonymous for 35 years with BASS tournaments and
tournament records. But that link has come to an end with the retirement of
the 65-year-old Florida pro.
Kevin VanDam Joins
Elite Field
Reigning
CITGO Bassmaster Classic Champion Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., will
fish the 2006 CITGO Bassmaster Elite Series, the angler announced today.
Horton Commits to Elite Series
Tim
Horton, a six-time CITGO Bassmaster Classic qualifier and three-time BASS
winner, will join fellow elite anglers Kevin VanDam, Aaron Martens, Shaw
Grigsby, Rick Clunn and others fishing the 2006 CITGO Bassmaster Elite
Series.
Denny Brauer and

There
are legends in the sport of bass fishing and then there is Denny Brauer.
Quinn: Wrapped,
Focused and Ready
This
month, charismatic angler Jason Quinn accepted his invitation to fish in the
2006 CITGO Bassmaster Elite Series and extended and expanded his sponsorship
contract with a major whiskey label that will support his goal to reach the
CITGO Bassmaster Classic and take home the coveted trophy.
Rogers Signs
Up for Elite Series
“I
think this is the future of bass fishing,” professional BASS angler Mark
Rogers says happily. “This is absolutely the way it should be.”
Bailey: Second
Non-Endemic Sponsor; Ready for Elites
Lee
Bailey Jr., one of the first BASS anglers to garner a non-endemic
sponsorship – Foxwoods Resort Casino – 10 years ago, was never satisfied
with the status quo. Considered a pioneer of sorts, Bailey is making more
strides in the sport, as he recently signed a sponsorship deal with
Albertville, Ala.-based food processing equipment company Fabco Equipment
Inc.
GAD Winner Clunn
Commits to Elite Series
Rick
Clunn, a 30-time CITGO Bassmaster Classic qualifier, four-time Classic
winner and recently named by fans as the greatest angler of all time, has
accepted an invitation to fish the 2006 CITGO Bassmaster Elite Series.
Triton Lures
Angler of the Year Martens
In
a sponsorship change rarely seen with a reigning CITGO Bassmaster Angler of
the Year, Aaron Martens has joined the Triton Boats pro team.

in the 2006 Elite Series
2004
Toyota Rookie of the Year and three-time CITGO Bassmaster Classic qualifier
Greg Hackney, 32, of Gonzales, La., has signed, sealed and delivered his
participation agreement for the highly anticipated 2006 CITGO Bassmaster
Elite Series.
Reese First Angler to
Register for Elite Series
In
September, Skeet Reese of Auburn, Calif., made history by becoming the first
professional angler to register for the CITGO Bassmaster Elite Series, an
11-event competition that will award nearly $7.5 million in cash and
merchandise.
Reese, 36, didn’t know he was going to be the first. He was just thinking
sensibly. “I knew the deadline was coming and wanted to get my deposits in,”
he said. “My intent is to fish BASS, without a doubt. That’s where I created
my livelihood and saw my career blossom.”
Kevin
VanDam: Classic and Beyond
Exclusive Interview!
Kevin
VanDam has, as most of the bass fishing world knows, won the last three BASS
Tour-level events, one of which was the Classic. The roll that he is on
right now is unprecedented in the history of bass fishing.
Martens Gets Far Away
from Fishing
What
does a man who was born to be a fisherman do in the aftermath of a highly
successful CITGO Bassmaster Tour season that included winning the CITGO
Bassmaster Angler of the Year title and a runner-up performance in the
prestigious CITGO Bassmaster Classic?
Edwards'
Recovery Coming Along Nicely
Jarrett
Edwards wants BASS fans to know he is “100 percent cancer-free” and looking
forward with renewed enthusiasm to the 2006 CITGO Bassmaster Tour, kicking
off March 9-12 on Lake Amistad in Del Rio, Texas.
Cochran: No More BASS
Exclusive interview!
During
the 2005 Forrest L. Wood Championship on Lake Hamilton, AR, George Cochran
announced that he would be fishing FLW tournaments exclusively, which ended
his 26-year career with BASS. "Cochran said he’ll be exclusively fishing the
FLW Tour in 2006," FLW said on the final day. "I said they (FLW) were the
best tour," he acknowledged.
Cochran on Winning Big
Exclusive interview!
Previous
to George Cochran's recent FLW Championship victory and his 4th place finish
at the 2005 Bassmaster Classic, most fans were of the opinion that his
performance was waning. Cochran is well known as one of the best shallow
water fishermen in the world, and the FLW Championship fish were expected to
be in deep brushpiles scattered across Lake Hamilton. "I tried to catch fish
deep on brushpiles," Cochran said, "I never would have dreamed that I
would’ve won it by fishing shallow."
10 Things You May
Not Know About Kevin VanDam
By
now, you likely know that Kevin VanDam accomplished the following feats by
winning last week’s CITGO Bassmaster Classic in Pittsburgh: He becomes just
the fifth pro to win multiple Classic crowns; he joins Roland Martin as one
of just two anglers to win three consecutive BASS tournaments; and his BASS
career earnings total is just $33,500 from overtaking 18-time Classic
contender and 1998 champion Denny Brauer’s $1.9 million lead.
Clunn Voted
Greatest Angler of All Time
PITTSBURGH
– Rick Clunn is the greatest bass angler of all time, as determined in
ESPN’s Greatest Angler Debate presented by John Deere, BASS announced today.
Clunn, of Ava, Mo., bested 34 other nominees to win the prestigious award.
Klein's In, Now What?
Gary
Klein's in the 2005 Bassmaster Classic. Now what?
Trip Weldon reportedly told several anglers that the final Classic qualifier
sheet was complete, and that was the end of the story. What the tournament
director says goes. Or does it?
Iaconelli
Knows Most About Classic Waters
Pittsburgh,
Pa. — Most of the 2005 Classic qualifiers have never fished the 2005 Classic
waters. The exception is 2003 Classic champion Michael Iaconelli, who was
savvy enough to spend seven days learning the Classic waters back in
October. “I had never fished in those particular pools until last October,”
the New Jersey pro said.
Snowden's Tournament
Journal - Lake Wissota
Fishing
on Lake Wissota was a challenge. I was able to catch a fair amount of small
fish, but catching keepers was more of a chore. During practice I tried a
Carolina rig, Rogue, and Bomber 6A working them in 4-8 feet of water with
scattered grass. I was only able to catch a few keepers a day during
practice, and most came on shallow boat docks with a green pumpkin, 4 inch,
YUM Mega Tube.
Snowden's Tournament
Journal - Lake Lewisville
Most
of the practice days were sunny with highs in the mid-upper 80s. There were
occasional afternoon clouds and some rain. The water temperature was 76
degrees and stained with 1-2 feet of visibility. The first day of practice I
caught most of my fish in 4-8 feet of water. I was able to target stumps and
dead willow trees with a Texas rigged worm. I used a ¼ oz., Excalibur TG
Weight and a YUM, 10 inch, ribbontail worm in tequila sunrise with green
flake.
Ike is Primed
for Another Classic Run
To
the delight of his fans — and dismay of his detractors — Michael Iaconelli
just keeps getting better. The controversial New Jersey pro, who turned 33
years old this month, has been on a remarkable run since winning the 2003
CITGO Bassmaster Classic. It is the kind of streak that is unthinkable,
considering the immediate post-Classic track records of most champions.
Nixon Returns
to his Rightful Classic Spot
Not long ago, it was commonplace for legendary angler Larry Nixon to
qualify for the CITGO Bassmaster Classic. In fact, he did it for 18
consecutive years – 1977 to 1994 – creating the third longest Classic streak
in BASS history. But for the 54-year-old Bee Branch, Ark. angler who owns
one of the most illustrious resumes in the sport, such certainty no longer
exists.
Omori Turns
Focus to Classic
He is a hero to anglers in two countries and professional fishing’s first
international champion. But it’s going to take more than an admirable track
record and revered reputation for CITGO Bassmaster Classic reigning champion
Takahiro Omori to clinch bass fishing’s most prized award again.
Klein, Nixon
on the Classic Bubble
Pressure is a byproduct of tournament angling. Even legendary anglers like
Gary Klein and Larry Nixon are not immune to the pressure of qualifying for
the CITGO Bassmaster Classic.
Menendez
Recuperating from Meningitis
It was while practicing for the Lake Guntersville Tour stop that the
40-year-old Kentucky pro was struck with meningitis and had to be
hospitalized for more than a week. It began with an excruciating headache,
followed by a high fever. That led to a spinal tap that indicated he had
contracted meningitis, a life-threatening ailment.
Edwards on the
Road to Recovery
Colorado’s Jarrett Edwards was practicing for the Tour event at Clarks Hill
Reservoir when neck soreness from wearing a new helmet caused him to get a
check-up. That led to a diagnosis on March 31st of Hodgkin's disease, a form
of cancer. Left undiagnosed, doctors told him his life expectancy would have
been about 18 months. “That helmet might have saved my life,” he said.
Clunn vs.
Martin in the Final GAD Vote
 Lewisville,
Texas – It’s only fitting that ESPN’s Greatest Angler Debate presented by
John Deere comes down to one of professional bass fishing’s oldest
questions: Which is the greater accomplishment, winning the CITGO Bassmaster
Angler of the Year title or winning the CITGO Bassmaster Classic?
Greatest Angler Debate - #3: Bill Dance
In the early days of modern bass fishing, there was Bill Dance. The
spectacled furniture salesman from Memphis with the ubiquitous orange “T” on
his fishing cap was the sport’s first superstar and has parlayed that
success into a television empire with “Bill Dance Outdoors.”
Greatest Angler Debate - #4: Denny Brauer
The Greatest Angler Debate presented by John Deere shows that the world’s
greatest anglers can come from virtually any background or geographic
region. There are fishing guides from Arkansas (Mark Davis and Larry Nixon),
furniture salesmen from Tennessee (Bill Dance), computer programmers from
Texas (Rick Clunn) and new generation pros from California (Gary Klein) and
Michigan (Kevin VanDam).
Greatest Angler
Debate - #5: Kevin VanDam
It’s all a question of era. Professional bass fishing has been around for
nearly 40 years. In the early days, the sport was dominated by Bill Dance
and Roland Martin; then came Rick Clunn, Larry Nixon, Gary Klein, Hank
Parker and Denny Brauer. The young guns of the sport – those who debuted on
the cast for cash circuits in the last 15 or 20 years – are still busy
making their marks.
Snowden's Tournament
Journal - Lake Dardanelle
Lake Dardanelle has always been a hit or miss lake for me, and this week it
was a miss! The river was in good condition with normal water levels and
water color was good throughout the river. The water temperature ranged from
73-78 degrees. Most of the fish were finished spawning and had started
moving into their summer pattern.
Hite's Dardanelle
Highlights
The City of Russellville and Lake Dardanelle have a definite love affair
with the Bassmaster Elite 50 Series, as evidenced by the tremendous
reception the tournament received for the second consecutive year.
Greatest Angler Debate
- #6: Larry Nixon
Who was the first angler to tally more than $1 million in BASS tournament
winnings? How about the only angler to win four BASS MegaBucks titles? If
you said Larry Nixon, you’d be right, but there’s much more to his career.
Mark Davis has
his E-50 Mojo Working
When it comes to the all-star circuit known as the Bassmaster Elite 50 Tour,
Mark Davis is the man. All you have to know is that the Arkansas pro has won
three out of the last four Elite 50 events spanning the last two seasons.
Although he’s a former CITGO Bassmaster Classic champion and three-time
CITGO Bassmaster Angler of the Year, Davis is in danger of becoming better
known as “Mr. E-50.”
Mark Davis is Back
Mark Davis had a tough Tour season. Multiple shoulder surgeries over the
winter put him in a bad position to begin the season in January, and as a
result, he finished 88th in BASS Angler of the Year standings.
Guy Eaker Keeps
His Classic Dream Alive
Guy Eaker has a dream.
It’s not just any fisherman’s dream, either. The 65-year-old North Carolina
pro has a burning desire to become the oldest angler ever to qualify for the
CITGO Bassmaster Classic.
Snowden's
Tournament Journal - Smith Lake
The first day of practice I fished up the river targeting bass in the
flooded buckbrush. I tried working a Houdini shad in and around the brush
with only small fish being caught.
"Angry" VanDam Takes
it out on the Tour
One of the biggest lessons learned during the 2005 CITGO Bassmaster Tour
season is that you should never make Kevin VanDam mad.
Mr. Elite 50
(Mark Davis)
Wins Again
Mark Davis has just entered another almost mystic realm.
When Davis won two of the first four Citgo Bassmaster Elite 50s in 2004, it
was interesting and impressive. To win three of the last four though is sort
of scary.
Greatest Angler Debate - #7: Hank Parker
Don’t let a few of the numbers fool you, Hank Parker is one of bass
fishing’s all-time greats despite the fact that he “only” won a little more
than $400,000 in his 13 year career on the CITGO Bassmaster Tournament
Trail.
Greatest Angler Debate - #8: Jay Yelas
With well over $1 million dollars in tournament winnings, a CITGO Bassmaster
Classic crown, CITGO Bassmaster Angler of the Year title, FLW Angler of the
Year award and an acclaimed autobiography to his credit, there’s little that
Jay Yelas hasn’t accomplished in the world of professional bass fishing.
Greatest Angler Debate - #9: Gary Klein
Hailing from Oroville, Calif., Klein’s career marked the dawn of a new era
in the sport of professional bass fishing. Before him, all of the pros
worked other jobs to pay their way on the cast-for-cash trail. Many were
fishing guides, but others sold insurance, worked as mechanics or ran the
family farm to make ends meet. Klein was the first true career bass pro,
hitting the CITGO Bassmaster Tournament Trail as a 21-year-old rookie and
never looking back.
Greatest Angler Debate - #10: Mark Davis
There’s
virtually nothing in the world of competitive bass fishing that Mark Davis
hasn’t accomplished. The affable Mount Ida, Ark., pro is a three-time CITGO
Bassmaster Angler of the Year (1995, 1998 and 2001), a CITGO Bassmaster
Classic champion and a four-time winner on the BASS tournament trail.
